Building Your Own Home

Should You Build Your Own Home?

Take a minute to weigh some of the pros and cons:

Pros Cons
You can customize your new home for your needs. You may pay more than you would for a resale home.
With new construction, you don't need to worry about how your home was built, or how soon you may need to renovate. A custom home may take longer to construct and complete than a new home purchased from a builder.
You can choose almost any design (instead of settling for what's on the market). Costs can easily escalate during construction.
You have a very active role in the building process. You'll face additional costs for landscaping, decorating, paving, etc.
You can build with the most up-to-date materials and methods. Managing a build is time consuming and complicated-even with the best planning and organization, you'll have to respond to unexpected issues.
