Personal Identification Number (PIN) - Your Electronic Signature
Your RBC Royal Bank® Client Card (Client Card), together with your Personal Identification Number (PIN), provides the key to accessing your money. Your PIN acts as your 'electronic signature' for your bank accounts that you access with your Client Card.
Here are some helpful suggestions for selecting your PIN and keeping it safe and secure.
Selecting Your Confidential PIN
- Choose numbers or letters you can easily remember, based on information only you know.
- Never select numbers or words that others can easily guess or obtain, such as your:
- Birth date
- Telephone number
- Address
- Social Insurance Number
- Memorize your PIN - never write it down.
- Travel Tip - If you plan on using your RBC Royal Bank® Client Card outside Canada, consider selecting a PIN composed of four numbers as International ATMs and Retailers often only accept a four-digit numeric PIN.
Protecting Your Confidential PIN
- Always make sure your Client Card is in full view when conducting a transaction.
- Shield the keypad with your free hand or body when entering your confidential PIN.
- Never reveal your PIN to anyone - including financial institution employees, law enforcement agencies, friends or family members.
- If you suspect that someone knows your PIN, immediately change your PIN at your branch or at selected RBC Royal Bank ATMs.
- Regularly check your statements and balances to verify all transactions have been properly documented. If entries do not accurately reflect your transaction activities, such as missing or additional transactions, you should visit your branch or contact us immediately.
