Updating Your RBC Financial Group Accounts

At RBC Royal Bank we ask that you advise us immediately when you change your address. That way, you won't miss any communication about your accounts with us.

Due to restrictions within the Bank Act, RBC Royal Bank cannot legally transfer certain information to other divisions and companies within the RBC Financial Group. Therefore, you may need to contact more than one division to fully update your accounts. To help you, we've listed contact information and address change guidelines for our different divisions:

RBC Royal Bank
RBC Direct Investing™
RBC Insurance
RBC Dominion Securities®
Private Banking Services

RBC Royal Bank

If you have an RBC Royal Bank chequing or savings account, mortgage, credit line, term deposits, personal loans, Visa, Guaranteed Investment Certificates or RSP, you can notify us four different ways:

  • See a bank representative at your local RBC Royal Bank branch. For quick results, have your client card number with you.
  • Call Royal Direct at 1-800-769-2511. For fastest service, have your client card number on hand.
  • Sign in to RBC Royal Bank Online Banking and click on the Update Profile link. Under the heading "Contact Information and Preferences", click on the link "View/Change Address and Personal Information". Follow the instructions to change your address and e-mail address (if necessary).
  • Send a secure email through RBC Royal Bank Online Banking. Sign in to RBC Royal Bank Online Banking and go to the Message Centre. In your email, include your client card number but DO NOT provide your Personal Identification Number (PIN); it is not required for address changes.

For RBC Royal Bank Visa only, you can mail your change of address to:

Royal Bank of Canada
PO Box 4402
Toronto, ON
M5W 3V1

Make sure you include your Visa account number in the letter.

Important Notes:

  • If you have an account with a mailing address different from your home address, you must also advise us if that address is changing-it will not change automatically.
  • Clients usually don't change their account and Visa numbers when they move, unless they're moving long distances or out of province. If you'd like to learn more about our products, visit our Bank Accounts and Packages or RBC Royal Bank Visa Cards site.
  • If your account or Visa number is changing, you will need to ensure that all pre-authorized debits and credits are routed to your new deposit or Visa account. Please visit a local branch in your new area to set up your new account. You can also switch your pre-authorized payments with CustomSwitch®, a free and convenient service.

RBC Direct Investing (Formerly RBC Action Direct)

You can change your address one of three ways:

  • Sign in to RBC Direct Investing Online. Click the Edit Profile link in the top, right-hand corner of the page and then click on the Change your Account Profile link. NOTE: if your mailing address differs from your home address, you cannot change it online-you must change it by phone or mail.
  • Call 1-800-769-2560 to speak to an Investment Representative. When you call, you will likely be asked a few questions about your account for security purposes.
  • Print an update/change form at: www.rbcdirectinvesting.com/
    downloadable-forms.html
. From the General Forms box, choose Update/Change Client Information and then click the Get the Form link. Print and complete the form and mail it to:

    RBC Direct Investing Inc.
    Royal Bank Plaza
    200 Bay Street, North Tower
    P.O. Box 75
    Toronto, ON M5J 2Z5

You can also fax the form to:
    1-888-722-2388

If you mail or fax a letter in, it should include your name, account number(s), your old address and new address, your signature and your new phone number (if it has changed).

RBC Insurance

RBC Insurance has several different departments. You will need to change your address with the department that issued the type of policy you hold:

Home and Auto Insurance:

We recommend that you contact one of our licensed insurance advisor's at 1-800-769-2526, to change your address, along with the following factors, as your policy could be affected:

  • Rates are affected by where you live. Therefore, your premium is subject to change when you move.
  • Additional information, such as new drivers in your household, changes to commute distance and new property information will be required.
  • Moving to a different province will require a new policy with a new policy number.

When you call, please have your policy number ready.

Health and Life Insurance:

Notify RBC Insurance through the number or address below that corresponds to the type of coverage you have:

Living Benefits (1-888-604-3434)
1122 International Blvd
P.O. Box 5044
Burlington, ON
L7R 4C1

Life (1-800-461-1413)
6880 Financial Drive, West Tower
P.O. Box 515, Stn A
Mississauga, ON
L5A 4M3

Please have your policy number, client/owner name, and effective date of change on hand when you call, or include them in your letter.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are moving to another province, there may be taxable implications to the premium tax on Universal Life Policies. Any contractual changes made to a policy must be done by the owner.

For more information about RBC Insurance, visit www.rbcinsurance.com.

RBC Dominion Securities

Please contact your Investment Advisor directly; he or she will submit the change of address for you.

For more information about RBC Dominion Securities, visit www.rbcds.com.

Private Banking

Please write to or call your Private Banker directly; he or she can make your address change for you. However, depending on the products you have, you can make the changes yourself using any of the options outlined in RBC Royal Bank above.

If you are moving to a new province, your Private Banker will ask his or her counterpart in your new province to introduce you to a new Private Banking unit. In addition, you can click here for a list of our Private Banking units. While these pages are not specifically designed for changing your address, you can use the message box on the bottom of the Contact Me form to advise your Private Banker of your new address.
