Buying a New Car

Warranties

The reliability and performance of new cars has increased appreciably in recent years and new car warranties are more extensive and comprehensive than ever before.

Most automakers give three- to five-year "bumper-to-bumper" warranties on every new vehicle they make, virtually eliminating the need to buy extended warranties on a supplementary basis.

Extended warranties usually cover manufacturing flaws or defective parts after the basic warranty has expired. As a rule, they do not cover wear and tear due to age or use, and may offer coverage that already exists under the manufacturer's original warranty.
