A legacy of service to agriculture
In 1967, when Doug McRorie established RBC Royal Bank’s specialized services
for farmers and ranchers, he changed the future of agricultural banking in Canada.
Today, a scholarship honouring the late RBC visionary is helping a new generation
chart a better future for the industry.
This past April, the Agricultural Institute of Canada (AIC) Foundation announced
six deserving recipients of the Douglas McRorie Memorial Scholarships. The
scholarships, established in 1990, are supported by McRorie’s widow, Valerie,
and funded by the RBC Foundation.
Armed with $1,500 scholarships, the six recipients will pursue graduate studies
in fields such as Agricultural Economics, Business Finance and Trade. The RBC
Foundation recently renewed its commitment to the McRorie Memorial Scholarships
for a further five years, and November 15 is the 2007 application deadline.
The 2006 recipients were:
- Brooke Fridfinnson, Arborg, Man.(Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics, University of Manitoba)
- Wenzhao Huang, Edmonton, Alta. (Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Alberta)
- Lorraine MacKinnon, O’Leary, PEI (Agribusiness Management, University of Guelph)
- Steven Koeckhoven, Stony Plain, Alta. (Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Alberta)
- Tracy Stobbe, Delta, B.C. (Economics, University of Victoria)

“Many of our current donors knew and worked with Doug McRorie, who was also a founding member of our Foundation,” says AIC Foundation Manager Jean Sullivan. “Their support of this program and the ongoing financial commitment of the RBC Foundation are a testament to his many contributions to Canadian agriculture.”
