QUESTION: Can I redeem for a business class seat?

ANSWER: You have three ways to redeem for business class seats. You can:

  • Convert points to British Airways Executive Club or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles programs. This option gives you the flexibility to redeem for business class travel and other benefits these programs offer.

  • Redeem your RBC Rewards® points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CDN, using the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre.

  • Redeem for Carlson Wagonlit gift certificates and book business class on your next trip with Carlson Wagonlit Travel. When you use your RBC Avion card to book travel with Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Canada (CWT), you'll earn up to triple RBC Rewards points for every dollar you spend (excluding taxes).

QUESTION: Are there any guidelines I should know about before I book?

ANSWER: Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind to get the best possible value for your rewards points:

  • To take advantage of the Avion air travel redemption schedule book your flight at least 14 days in advance. If you are booking less than 14 days before departure you can redeem your points at a rate of 100 RBC Rewards points for $1, using the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre.

  • Check the number of points needed for your destination in the redemption schedule. For example, Edmonton to Vancouver is 15,000 points.

  • Destinations have a Maximum Ticket Price. Again, using Edmonton and Vancouver as an example, the Maximum Ticket Price is $350. In the unlikely event that a ticket costs more than the allowed amount, the additional cost can be charged to your RBC Avion card or you can use your points.

  • Airline tickets are economy class round trip tickets and are not refundable.

QUESTION: I already have a travel rewards credit card. What happens to my points if I cancel this card?

ANSWER: If your credit card is associated with an airline rewards program, any points you have earned are probably part of your membership in the program, not the credit card account. So the points you have already collected should remain yours, even after you cancel your credit card.

QUESTION: How do I book a flight with points?

ANSWER: When you are ready to travel, call the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre at 1-877-636-2870, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST, or Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST. Tell them where and when you want to travel and they will make the arrangements. Simply pay with your points. There are no booking fees or costs to speak to a travel expert. It's that simple.

QUESTION: How much can I spend on an airline ticket using RBC Rewards points?

ANSWER: There is a Maximum Ticket Price in effect for each destination, which is indicated on the redemption schedule. For example, a flight from Vancouver to Edmonton requires 15,000 RBC Rewards points and has a Maximum Ticket Price of $350. In the unlikely case that the base ticket cost exceeds the Maximum Ticket Price, the additional cost can either be charged to your RBC Avion card or you can use your points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CDN.

QUESTION: What if I don't have enough points for a flight?

ANSWER: If you don't have enough points, as an RBC Avion cardholder, you can purchase additional points to use towards air travel. You must have at least half of the required points for your desired zone booking (see redemption schedule) in order to purchase additional points. The minimum amount of points to purchase is 1,000 and maximum is 15,000, and every 1,000 points costs $40 plus GST. Terms and Conditions.
