Q. How do I earn RBC Rewards points?

A. Every time you use a Credit Card with RBC Rewards, you earn RBC Rewards point(s). Click here to see the earn rate for your card. Please note that your RBC Rewards points are available to redeem once your statement has been issued.

Q. How do I redeem my RBC Rewards points?

A. For Merchandise Rewards, gift certificates, Cineplex Night Out movie passes and RBC Registered Rewards you can now redeem online, simply find the item you want to redeem and hit the redeem button. If you chose to order by telephone, you can call: 1-800-ROYAL® 1-2. For Travel Rewards (flights, hotel stays, car rentals, travel packages, VIA Rail and cruises), call 1-877-636-2870.

Q. How do I know how many RBC Rewards points I have accumulated?

A. There are two ways to find out how many points you have. The easiest way is to view your point balance online at www.rbcrewards.com then click on "View Points". Or each month your RBC Rewards points balance is clearly shown on your RBC Royal Bank Visa statement. Please note that your RBC Rewards points are available to redeem once your statement has been issued.

Q. I don't have the latest RBC Rewards Catalogue. Where can I see which Merchandise Rewards are available to me?

A. You may browse the new RBC Rewards Catalogue, featuring over 250 new merchandise rewards.

Q. Do I have to choose the travel offers that are online, in the Choices newsletter?

A. No. You can choose a vacation, tour, or package holiday from any other source, and book it through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre. They will calculate the points you need to redeem.

Q. I don't have enough points to travel for free yet but I'd like to travel now. Can I pay for some of the trip using cash in addition to my points?

A. If you are booking any travel reward, with the exception of Avion air travel rewards (see below), you can always use points plus cash! 100 RBC Rewards points can be redeemed for $1 CDN towards the cost of your travel. There is no minimum point value needed to redeem, and the remaining balance can be paid with your RBC Royal Bank Visa card. Avion cardholders who are redeeming RBC Rewards points for air travel must have the exact number of points required as listed in the Redemption Schedule.

RBC Avion cardholders can purchase additional points to use towards air travel. You must have at least half of the required points for your desired zone booking in order to purchase additional points. The minimum amount of points to purchase is 1,000 and maximum is 15,000, and every 1,000 points costs $40 plus applicable taxes. Terms and Conditions

Q. Can I book my trip, hotel, or car rental directly with the airline, hotel chain, or car rental company?

A. No. You must book through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre. Call 1-877-636-2870, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

Q. Do I need to book separate travel insurance when I redeem my points for travel?

A. Travel booked through RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre is automatically covered by the same insurances that are on your RBC Royal Bank Visa card. To see which insurances your card carries, click here.

How much can I spend on an airline ticket using RBC Rewards points?

A. There is a Maximum Ticket Price in effect for each destination, indicated on the redemption schedule. For example, a flight from Vancouver to Edmonton requires 15,000 RBC Rewards points and has a Maximum Ticket Price of $350. If the base ticket cost exceeds the Maximum Ticket Price, the additional cost can either be charged to your Avion card or you can use your points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CDN.

What is the advantage of transferring RBC Rewards points to Asia Miles (Cathay Pacific) or BA Miles (British Airways)?

A. You can expand your travel reward options to allow you to fly business class. Your points are transferred at a one to one ratio.

Can I use the points earned on my Avion card for other travel options?

A. Avion is more than Air Travel. You can redeem RBC Rewards points for packaged holidays, hotels, car rentals, VIA Rail, cruises and tours.

I already have a travel rewards credit card. What happens to my points if I cancel this card?

A. For most credit cards that are associated with an airline rewards program, any points you have earned are part of your membership in the program, not the credit card account. So any points you have already collected should remain yours – even after you cancel your credit card.

Q. What is an Identification Word?

A. An Identification Word, known only to you, is one security measure in place to protect your information from unauthorized users. Your Identification Word is not case sensitive, however, it is recommended to use upper and lower case letters where possible. You can select one by calling 1-800 ROYAL® 1-2 (1-800-769-2512); you may have already selected it on your RBC Royal Bank Visa application. For more information, click here.

Q. If I'm a co-applicant on the account, do I use the primary cardholder's Identification Word?

A. No. The Identification Word is unique to each user. Co-applicants must enter their own Visa card number, the primary cardholder's birthdate, then their own Identification Word. You can select your own Identification Word by calling 1-800 ROYAL® 1-2 (1-800-769-2512). For more information, click here.
