Visa Prepaid Cards can be used to make purchases online, by phone and at millions of retail locations worldwide — wherever Visa is accepted. Cards cannot be used to withdraw cash at an ATM or to receive any other cash withdrawal or to make financial payments at any financial institution.

There is a one–time purchase fee when Visa Prepaid Cards are initially purchased, to cover the cost of setting up the program, manufacturing cards and providing certain services. There are no usage fees charged to cardholders when making purchases at merchants.

Yes. The minimum value for Visa Prepaid Cards is $25 and the maximum value is $750.

Visa Prepaid Cards can only be loaded once, at the time of purchase. Cards cannot be re-loaded.

Visa Prepaid Cards are not refundable for cash or other banking products.

Non-personalized cards may be transferred by recipients to someone else provided the card has not been signed. Once signed, cards are not transferable. Cards personalized in the name of the recipient are not transferable.

Yes, a minimum of 100 cards is required per order. If you require fewer than 100 cards for your program, please visit an RBC Royal Bank branch. For single card orders of 10,000 or more, please email RBC Corporate Prepaid Sales directly for costs, card production timing and delivery.

Yes, we do offer the option to ship cards directly to cardholders/recipients. Please let us know if you are interested in this option and we will work with you on the requirements. Additional fees will apply.

Yes, once you've enrolled with us you will have the ability to order cards on an ongoing basis, as required. Simply submit your order (as outlined in the welcome package you will receive after enrolment), make your payment and your cards will be sent out accordingly.

Each card is distributed with a Card Agreement. This agreement fully explains the terms and conditions regarding the use of the card. This agreement can also be viewed online . The recipient / end user of the card accepts the terms and conditions by signing the back of the card, using the card, or registering the card.

RBC Visa Prepaid Cards are not reloadable and therefore cannot be used for recurring payments such as membership fees or other monthly bills. These transactions will not be authorized by merchants.

For merchandise returns and credit vouchers, recipients should deal directly with merchants. Visa Prepaid Cards and purchase receipts should kept (even after the balance is depleted) as some merchants require the card and/or receipts to process merchandise returns. When it is the store/merchants policy to credit the Card used for purchases (rather than provide cash or store credit), the available balance on the Card will be increased by the amount of the refund within two to three days of the return.

Yes, expiry dates are required in order to process Visa transactions. The expiry date can be found on the front of the card and will be three years from the date the cards are issued.

Upon the card expiry a fee will be charged equal to the value of the balance remaining on the Card. An amount equivalent to the aggregate of all expiry fees collected will be donated to a charity that is supported by Royal Bank of Canada, such as an RBC Blue Water Project™ grant recipient.

Yes, cards can be replaced if lost or stolen provided they have been registered at www.myrbccardbalance.com . Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately by contacting us toll–free at 1-866-466-8079 within Canada or the United States or collect from outside of Canada or the United States at 1-954-377-4480. A replacement card will be issued and any available balance will be transferred to the new card, less a $15.00 Replacement Card fee that will be deducted from the card's available balance. As long as the lost or stolen card is reported immediately, the cardholder will not be responsible for any unauthorized charges.

Yes. However, some merchants require that a temporary hold be placed on funds. This is normal practice for merchants accepting credit or prepaid cards to ensure that the card has sufficient funds to pay for the final anticipated amount of the purchase. Some merchants, such as hotels, car rental agencies or cruise lines, will hold funds until the end of the trip. We recommend that cards not be used for reservations to ensure that the card balance is not affected by the hold, which may be weeks or months in the future. Other merchants, such as restaurants or others that require a tip or extra charge, will hold up to 20% in addition to the price of the goods or services being purchased. These types of holds can take several days to clear. For these merchants, it is important for cardholders to know the card balance to ensure there are sufficient funds to cover both the transaction and the hold, or whether a split payment is required. Cards cannot be used to pay for fuel at "pay at the pump" kiosks, but can be used to pay for fuel in–store.

Cards can be used while travelling outside Canada. However, because some merchants may not be familiar with these types of Cards, we recommend that cardholders have another form of payment (credit card, debit card, cash or traveller's cheques) when making purchases. If cards or card numbers are used outside of Canada or if amounts are charged in a foreign currency, the transaction will be converted into Canadian dollars no later than the date we post the transaction to your Card at an exchange rate that is 2.5% over a benchmark rate Royal Bank of Canada pays the payment card company on the date of conversion. The transaction can be viewed on the cards transaction history.

Yes, you may use Visa Prepaid Cards in your marketing and communication materials including brochures, websites and advertising. All materials are subject to review and approval and must be submitted to us before they are printed, distributed or posted externally.
