Chip Technology > What's Next?
For now, it’s business as usual. The conversion to chip technology will take time and for now you can continue to use your current RBC® Client Card at stores, restaurants or ATMs with confidence, just as you do today.
We will begin sending out Chip Client Cards in early 2009 and it is expected that all clients will have their cards by 2013.
To ensure a smooth transition to chip technology and for continued acceptance at non-chip-enabled stores and restaurants (including countries that have not yet converted to chip technology), all RBC Chip Client Cards will contain both a chip and a magnetic stripe.
Important: Rest assured that all transactions are just as secure as ever, whether completed with an RBC Chip Client Card or with a magnetic stripe card. You continue to be protected under the provisions of the Canadian Code of Practice for Consumer Debit Card Services.
