Qualify for RBC Rewards® Points
As a new account holder to RBC®, how do I earn RBC Rewards® points with my RBC VIP Banking® account?
If you open an RBC VIP Banking account between October 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 and complete the following by January 31, 2010 you will earn 15,000 RBC Rewards points:
- Transfer your payroll or pension direct deposit to the account
- Complete 2 online bill payments through RBC online banking and
- Select paperless e-statement option.
You can earn an additional 5,000 RBC Rewards points after you have completed the above criteria if you use our complimentary CustomSwitch service to close your bank account with another Canadian financial institution and transfer it to your new RBC VIP Banking account.
My employer does not use automated payroll deposit, can I still qualify for the points offer?
If you do not have an automated payroll or pension direct deposit, you can still qualify if you have an active eligible RBC Royal Bank credit card that earns RBC Rewards points and an eligible RBC Royal Bank® investment with a minimum book value of $2,500 CDN. If you currently do not have these products, you can open them at any RBC branch. For all new credit card applications, our normal credit criteria applies.
The primary client on the eligible bank account must be the primary owner of both the qualifying RBC Royal Bank credit card and investment in their name.
What qualifies as an eligible investment? Can it comprise of multiple investment products?
Eligible RBC investments include the Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA), registered and non-registered investments offered by Royal Bank of Canada and it can comprise of multiple investment products for a total of $2,500 CDN.
Note: Investments held with Dominion Securities Inc. or Direct Investing Inc. are not eligible for this promotion. Some investments may be subject to different fund/account minimums.

Redeeming Your Points
Can I redeem RBC Rewards points for other rewards besides air travel?
Yes! You can redeem points for other travel rewards such as hotel stays, cruises, tours and package holidays and car rentals. You can also redeem points for merchandise, gift certificates/cards, RBC Financial Rewards® vouchers, Experiences by RBC Rewards and charitable donations.
How do I find out how many RBC Rewards points I have accumulated on my RBC Banking account?
There are 2 ways to find out how many points you have accumulated:
- Sign in to RBC Royal Bank Online Banking
, visit the personal account details screen, and select the “RBC Rewards” link located on the right side.
- If you do not have access to Online Banking, you may call 1-800-769-2512, simply provide your client card number to inquire how many points you have accumulated so far.
Note: Only the primary account holder can view the RBC Rewards points on the eligible bank account through online banking.
Are there any restrictions when redeeming points for a flight?
Unlike other rewards program, there are no seating restrictions, blackout periods or points expiry. See the Avion terms and conditions for details.
Are there any guidelines I should know about before I book air travel?
Yes. To get the best possible value for your rewards, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind when redeeming your points with the Avion Air Travel Redemption Schedule

- Book 14 days in advance of travelling
- Taxes are not included but you can redeem your points for them at 100 points = $1
How do I redeem the points that I have earned from the RBC Banking Rewards promotion?
To redeem points for merchandise, gift certificates/cards, charities or RBC Financial Rewards vouchers simply:
1) Sign in to RBC Royal Bank Online Banking
, click on the RBC Rewards link from your personal account details then find the item you want and select the “Add To My Cart” button
OR
2) Call 1-800-769-2512.
To redeem points for travel, call the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre at 1-877-636-2870.
What happens to my points if I close the eligible banking account that was earning points?
If you close your account, you have 90 days to redeem your points; otherwise, you will lose the points.
If I change the account ownership to my spouse, do I lose my points?
For change in ownership on an account to take place, the existing bank account must be closed and a new one opened by the remaining owner. Points remaining on closed accounts must be redeemed within 90 days.
I am an existing account holder, but I am now residing in the U.S. Will I still qualify for this promotion?
Account holders of the eligible account must be legal residents of Canada and have reached the age of majority in the province or territory in which they reside on or before the start of the Promotional Period. If this is a joint account, only the primary account holder need be a legal resident of Canada.
