British Columbia, Yukon and the Territories
Adam Brayford, a recent graduate from North Delta Secondary in Delta, BC has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming an Ecologist. Adam is planning to attend Simon Fraser University (Burnaby BC) in the Bachelor of Science Program with a major in Ecology and will commence full time study in the Fall. Adam volunteers with the Delta Recycling Society's Earthwise Garden program. He has provided workshops on water conservation and composting techniques. He has also joined volunteer teams that have succeeded in the salvaging of many native British Columbia plants from demolition sites. Adam submitted a project illustrating how he has created an organic, ecologically-friendly wildlife habitat garden in his backyard.
Tiffany Desrosiers, a recent graduate from D.W. Poppy Secondary School in Langley, BC has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help her pursue a performing career in the Opera, Concert, and Popera genres. Tiffany is planning to attend Trinity Western University (Langley BC) in the Bachelor of Arts Program with a major in Music and will commence full time study in the Fall. Tiffany submitted a song that she wrote and recorded along with several other recording samples.
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba
Karl Kohut, a recent graduate from River East Collegiate in Winnipeg, MB has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 scholarship will help Karl achieve his goal of becoming a Professional Musician. Karl will commence full-time study in the fall at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg MB) in the Bachelor of Music Program with a major in Jazz Studies. He has mentored other music students, given private lessons on the electric bass, mixed sound for live performances, and has been a featured piano, percussion and bass soloist. Karl submitted a CD recording of his school's senior jazz band. He recorded, engineered, and mastered this CD, which qualified the band to compete as finalists in the Essentially Ellington Competition in New York City.
Joann Mathon, a recent graduate from Innisfail Jr. Sr. High School in Innisfail, AB has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help her achieve her goal of becoming an Agriculture Equipment Technician and Farmer. Joann is planning to attend Olds College (Olds, AB) for Agriculture Mechanics, Industry and will commence full time study in the Fall. She is a member of the Rangeland 4-H Beef Club and has won the 4-H Platinum Award of Excellence. Joann submitted a project in which she purchases a steer and outlines a feeding schedule and timetable in a record book. Her project also illustrates how she trains, grooms, shows, selects, manages, and markets her beef animal.
Ontario
David Denyes, a recent graduate from E.L. Crossley Secondary School in Fonthill, ON has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help him achieve his goal of being an Environmental Biologist. David has been accepted at the University of Guelph (Guelph, ON) in the Bachelor of Science Program with a major in Biological Science and will commence full time study in the Fall. He has worked with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources as an Assistant Biologist/Field Technician, tagging and tracking several rare and endangered species ranging from Fowler Toads, the Massassauga Rattlesnake, the Black Rat snake, the Queen snake, and the Spotted Turtle. David submitted a geography research project on The Relationship of Systemic Issues to the Earth's Spheres.
Nicole De Silva, a recent graduate from Lisgar Collegiate Institute in Ottawa, ON has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help her achieve her goal of being a Research Scientist. Nicole has been accepted at McGill University (Montreal, QC) in the Bachelor of Science Program and will commence full time study in the Fall. She was selected to represent the Ottawa Region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, winning gold and bronze medals, the Renewable Energy Award, and the Natural Resources Canada Office of Energy Efficiency Award. Nicole has submitted a report that describes her award-winning invention, which will significantly improve the efficiency of communications in fibre optics.
Quebec and the Maritimes
Stephen Belyea, a recent graduate from Hampton High School in Hampton, NB has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming a Film Director. Stephen is planning to attend York University (Toronto, ON) in the Bachelor of Arts Program with a major in Film Studies and will commence full time study in the Fall. He has honed his film skills through several workshops and a course offered by Rogers Television and the Imperial Theatre. Stephen submitted three short films that he has written, directed and edited.
Robin Campbell, a recent graduate from West Kings District High School in Auburn, NS has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help her achieve her goal of becoming a Recreational Director. Robin has been accepted at Acadia University (Wolfville, NS) in the Bachelor of Recreation Management and will commence full time study in the Fall. She has been employed in the recreation department at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Camp Resort for three years and was promoted to Director of Recreation for the summer of 2004. She also has been an Executive Member of Student Council and very active in the Grad and Special Events Committees at West Kings District High School. Robin submitted a 24-page brochure for Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park that she created. The brochure outlines the events, activities, and amenities the park has to offer.
French Language Applicants
Marc-André Brisson, a recent graduate from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in Montréal, QC has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming an Economist. Marc-André has been accepted at L'Université de Montréal (Montreal, QC) to complete a Bachelor of Mathematics and Economics and will commence full time study in the fall. Marc-André tutored mathematics throughout the school year and was very involved in Jeunes Entreprises du Québec Inc. (Junior Achievement). He was president of the student council and published articles comparing private and cooperative business operations in the student journal. He won the National L Joseph Rotman Entrepreneurial Award. He has also participated in summer work terms in Manitoba and Prince Edward Island. Marc-André submitted a study on the impact of price reductions on household consumption.
Andréane Richard-Denis, a recent graduate from Collège Ahuntsic in Montréal, QC has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,004 award will help her pursue a career in medicine at L'Université de Sherbrooke. Andréane links her passion for health, fitness and community outreach through various activities. An accomplished athlete, she has participated in many track meets and marathons at the Mcgill Olympic Club. She has organized basketball workshops for girls, organized and taught lifeguard courses for over 50 secondary students and has volunteered at the Alzheimer Society in her region. Andréane submitted a collaborative research paper that evaluates different methods of measuring human cardiac activity. She and her three team members compiled the results into a recommendation guide for science labs and have written a scientific article, resuming their findings. This project was granted third prize by the Association of College Research in 2004.
