British Columbia, Yukon and the Territories

Shifra Day Shifra Day, a recent graduate from Magee Secondary School in Vancouver, BC has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help her achieve her goal of becoming a Chamber Musician and Accompanist or Music Teacher. Shifra is enrolled in a Bachelor of Music program with a major in piano and a minor in viola at the University of Victoria (Victoria, BC). Shifra is an accomplished pianist, and excels as both a soloist and a chamber musician. Shifra has achieved Royal Conservatory of Music ARCT (performance) on Piano, including Keyboard Harmony and Music History and has participated locally at the Vancouver Music Festival Workshop, Vancouver Kiwanis and Burnaby Clef Festivals. This summer Shifra gave a graduation recital on the piano and worked as a violist with the Theatre Under the Stars. Shifra submitted a CD of recent repertoire as well as a humorous musical essay about the viola.

Sky Fairchild-Waller Sky Fairchild-Waller, a recent graduate from Oak Bay Secondary School in Victoria, BC has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming a Professor of Dance Therapy. Sky is enrolled in an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts program with a double major in Dance and Psychology at York University (Toronto, ON). Sky has an exceptional gift for dance and has honed his craft through a variety of ways. While training, he taught dance at the Vancouver Island Fitness Centre for Women and assisted the Director of Dance/Fine Arts Department Head, and Artistic Coordinator at his high school. At the same time, he volunteered and performed in his community. A sample of his contribution includes performance and choreography for the Greater Victoria Fringe Festival and the 2005 Festival of DanceArts. Sky submitted a 16-minute dance application video which includes samples of performance and choreography.


Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba

Trisha Ann Paulson Trisha Ann Paulson, a recent graduate from Foam Lake Composite School in Foam Lake, SK has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help her achieve her goal of becoming a Nutritionist. Trisha is enrolled in a Bachelor of Science - Agriculture program with a major in Food Science at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK). Trisha's highschool years are characterised by academic achievement and social responsibility. She earned first place at the regional Science Fair and received a bronze medal at a Canada-Wide Science Fair. She was one of 50 students selected nation-wide to attend a War Child conference in Ottawa. Trisha co-lead the Volunteens, organizing and implementing the school's fundraising campaigns. She also volunteers at a local nursing home and health centre. Trisha submitted a project entitled Pea Fiber Potential that explores the effects of yellow pea and barley fiber on humans.

Ryan John Marcel Dudragne Ryan John Marcel Dudragne, a recent graduate from Swift Current Comprehensive High School in Swift Current, SK has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming an Ornithologist. Ryan is enrolled in a Bachelor of Science - Agriculture program with a major in Environmental Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK). Ryan has a passion for birds, the preservation of flora and fauna and their habitats. This interest has led him to contribute to a number of community-based organizations. He is the youngest member of the Southwest Naturalists (nature society), a member of the Saskatoon Nature Society, and has participated in the city-wide Earth day clean-up since the mid-1990s. He also volunteers to help maintain bluebird-nesting trails in Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park. In his spare time, Ryan deepens his ornithological knowledge through birding and reading. Ryan submitted a Power Point Presentation called Birds: A Poetry Anthology.


Ontario

Caroline Isabel Evans Caroline Isabel Evans, a recent graduate from St. Peter Catholic High School in Orleans, ON has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help her achieve her goal of becoming a Chemistry Professor or Oncologist. Caroline is enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program with a major in Biochemistry at the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, ON). Caroline has been interested in finding cures for diseases for as long as she can remember. In grade 9, she explored career options in Ottawa University's mini-enrichment course, The Pyramid of Health that combined courses with visits to the hospital. Later, through a chemistry assignment, she developed an interest in biochemistry. Caroline is a gifted public speaker and a committed community volunteer. Caroline submitted a chemistry research paper on Smart Materials And Shape Memory Alloys In Prosthetics.

August Murphy-King August Murphy-King, a recent graduate from Upper Canada College in Toronto, ON has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming a Composer and Jazz Pianist. August is enrolled in a Bachelor of Music program with a major in Composition at McGill University (Montreal, QC). August is a gifted musician and composer. Since the age of nine he has been attending the Student Composer's Workshop held by the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects. At UCC he was awarded the George and Mary Heintzman Prize in Music in Grade 11, and in Grade 12, he was awarded Nathan L. and Ruth Lowe Sandler Prize for Music Composition. Some of his notable compositions include Requiem for Solo Piano (2001), The Madness of King Lear (2002), Set Adrift (2003), Pathetic Variations, and Homage (2004). His most recent composition is based on Paul Celan's poem Fadensonnen. August submitted an audio CD of his compositions along with the written score of Fadensonnen.


Quebec and the Maritimes

Lisa Danielle Boucher Lisa Danielle Boucher, a recent graduate from East Antigonish Academy in Monastery, NS has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help her achieve her goal of achieving a position in Public Relations for Government, a sports organization or communications firm. Danielle is enrolled in a Bachelor of Public Relations program at Mount Saint Vincent University (Halifax, NS). Danielle is very involved in her community. She has been a canvasser for Arthritis, a waitress for community meals, and is a member of the local Veteran's Association. Danielle excels at communications. These talents come to life in Project Jenna Mobile, a fundraising campaign that she initiated with a friend to purchase a wheelchair accessible van for a friend with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Through bake sales, bottle drives, auctions and much persistence, they completed the task by raising $47,000. Danielle submitted information on Project Jenna Mobile.

Stephen Geoffrey Aylward Stephen Geoffrey Aylward, a recent graduate from Holy Heart of Mary High School in St. John's, NL has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming a Lawyer. Stephen is enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts at McGill University (Montreal, QC). Though legally blind, Stephen has accomplished more than a classroom of students his age. As a musician, he has made contributions to his school orchestra, chamber choir, as well as the Newfoundland Symphony Youth Orchestra, with whom he went to Japan this past summer. He has consistently been engaged with such extra-curricular activities as the student newspaper, debate club, student council, social justice committee, Model UN Conference as well as a National Youth Parliament this past May in Saskatchewan. His work with Amnesty International Group 60 included helping to organize a "Stop Violence Against Women" Coffee House. He has transcribed school materials into braille and is the recipient of several awards. Stephen has worked two summers as a legal secretary at a local law firm. Stephen submitted an evaluation of the effects of Lord Durham's Report on traditional interpretations of the 1837 rebellions.


French Language Applicants

Mathieu Raymond, a recent graduate from Cégep Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu (Québec) has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help him achieve his goal of becoming a Doctor. Mathieu is enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program at Université de Montéal (Montéal, Québec). Mathieu is well on the way to being an excellent doctor. He is known for his academic excellence, leadership skills and spirit of cooperation. During his final year of CEGEP, he volunteered at Haut-Richelieu Hospital, providing patients with company and assisting with walks and meals. While in CEGEP he edited a science book and tutored chemistry for students in need. While in secondary school, he earned first place at the local and regional engineering invention contests (Défi génie inventif) and was the recipient of several awards for academics and extracurricular activities, including student of the year. Mathieu is an accomplished violinist and has been playing since he was six years old. He studied music under Christian Poupart at "Les Goûts Réunis" music school in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Évelyne Beaudin Évelyne Beaudin, a recent graduate from Collège Mont Notre-Dame in Sherbrooke (Québec) has been selected as a recipient for an RBC Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship. The $2,005 award will help her achieve her goal of becoming a Teacher. Évelyne is enrolled in Science and Arts at Collège de Sherbrooke (Sherbrooke Québec). Évelyne is a vivacious, talented student who is a natural with children. Over the summer and throughout the year, she has worked as an animator for both summer and day camps. At highschool, she was involved in plays and musical reviewes; playing piano, accompanying performers, and organizing rehersals. Évelyne's strenghts in leadership are illustrated in her heading Science Fair projects and class activities. She has also volunteered for local medical causes (Caritas and fondation de la fibrose kystique). Évelyne submitted a project called Immigration in Sherbrooke and is a research and photo study on multicultural settlements in Sherbrooke.
