1. What is the RBC® Mobile1 app?
The RBC Mobile app is a software application (app) that you can download for free2. It allows you to bank securely3 anywhere, anytime: You can check your balances, transfer money between RBC accounts, make Interac‡ e-Transfers, pay bills and much more. At this time iPhone and iPod touch users are able to access RBC Direct Investing™ accounts to trade stocks, mutual funds, ETFs options and, access real-time4 quotes and financial information, view account information, manage orders, and transfer funds between linked RBC accounts through the RBC Mobile app. iPhone and iPod touch users are also able to access their RBC Dominion Securities® accounts, order status, get quotes and news, and transfer funds from RBC Royal Bank banking accounts to their linked RBC Dominion Securities accounts through the RBC Mobile app.
2. What do I need to use the RBC Mobile app?
You’ll need an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, BlackBerry or Android‡ smartphone to use the RBC Mobile app.
3. Do I need a specific mobile device to use the RBC Mobile app?
The RBC Mobile app banking functions work on the following devices:
- BlackBerry Torch 9800, 9810 BlackBerry Bold 9900, 9930, 9790, 9700, 9000, BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360, 9370, 8900, 8530, 8520, BlackBerry Tour (OS 5.0 or later)
- All Android smartphones (OS 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3)
- The RBC Mobile banking and investing functions work on iPhones, and iPod touch with iOS versions 5.0 and greater.
- The RBC Canada1 app:
- iPad with iOS versions 5.0 and greater
- Microsoft Windows 8‡ devices operating on: ARM, x86 and x64
4. How do I download the RBC Mobile app?
- iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users: Download the app from Apple App Store
- BlackBerry users: Download the app from BlackBerry App World
- Android users: Download the app from Android Market
NOTE: Before you download the RBC Mobile app, please confirm that the app is from Royal Bank of Canada. If that’s not the case, please notify us as soon as possible by sending an email to: mobile.feedback@rbc.com.
5. Can I use the RBC Mobile app on my iPad?
Yes, the RBC Mobile app from the Apple App Store can be downloaded onto the iPad; however it is optimized for use on the iPhone and iPod touch. Please note RBC Royal Bank now offers an iPad banking app designed specifically for use on iPad available through the Apple app store.
6. How much does the RBC Mobile app cost?
The RBC Mobile app is FREE2 to download and use.
7. What language options are available for the RBC Mobile app?
The RBC Mobile app is offered in both English and French. To switch languages, just change the language settings of your device.
8. Can I store multiple client cards / usernames on the app?
Yes, the RBC Mobile app supports multiple client cards / usernames, including nicknaming.
9. Can I access all of my bank accounts using the RBC Mobile app?
The app will give you access to the following accounts: chequing, savings, credit cards, lines of credit, mortgages, loans and Homeline plans. The iPhone and iPod touch versions also allows users access to their RBC Direct Investing and RBC Dominion Securities accounts.
10. Can I pay my bills or transfer funds in USD?
At the moment, you can only pay Canadian registered bills using your USD account. Transfers can be made between your Canadian and USD accounts. The payment of USD bills is not currently supported.
11. Why can’t I see all the details on my credit card statement in the RBC Mobile app (e.g. due date, minimum payments, etc.)?
After selecting your credit card from the list, tap on the chevron [“>”] next to Current Balance: All the additional information on your statement will be displayed.
NOTE: On any screen of the RBC Mobile app, a chevron always indicates that there is more information available–which can be accessed by tapping on the chevron.
12. Will your .mobi application continue to be available?
RBC Mobile Web banking (.mobi) continues to be fully operational. You can continue to bank using .mobi with any Internet-enabled phone. However, if you have an iPhone, BlackBerry or an Android device you may find it easier to connect to your accounts using the RBC Mobile app.
13. My session timed out. What should I do?
Session timeouts are, in fact, a security feature of the app. They are designed to keep your banking safe and secure by automatically logging you out whenever there is no activity for a period of time. For example, if after signing in you were to leave your device unattended for some reason, the timeout feature would prevent possible access/abuse by someone else.
If a timeout occurs, simply log back in to continue banking on the go.
14. I’ve been locked-out of RBC Mobile app; what should I do?
For the protection of customers, it is our standard practice to lock-out a user after THREE (3) incorrect password tries. In the event that you’ve been locked-out of Mobile Banking, please select “Forgot Password” from Online Banking and follow the prompts to reset your password. Alternatively, you can call 1-800-769 2555 to reset your password / PVQ.
- In the event that you’ve been locked-out of RBC Direct Investing mobile, please select “Forgot Password” from Direct Investing Online and follow the prompts to reset your password, or call 1-800-769-2560.
- In the event that you’ve been locked-out of RBC Dominion Securities mobile please select “Forgot Password” from Dominion Securities Online and follow the prompts or call 1-888-820-8006.
NOTE: With the limited size of mobile keyboards, it is very easy to mistype passwords and PVQ answers -- please exercise extra care when entering data on your mobile device.
15. Do I need to update my RBC Mobile settings if I get a new phone number?
No, there is no need to update your banking or investing settings after changing phone numbers if you access your accounts through a browser (via www.rbc.mobi ), or through the RBC Mobile app.
16. Who do I contact to get help using RBC Mobile app?
As a first step, please check our mobile banking pages at www.rbcroyalbank.com/mobile. You can usually find the answer to your problem quickly and easily. Otherwise, for banking-related inquiries call 1-800-769-2555. For Direct Investing inquiries call 1-800-769-2560. For Dominion Securities inquiries call 1-888-820-8006.

RBC Canada app
17. How is the RBC Canada app different from the existing RBC Mobile app?
The RBC Canada app is designed to make your banking experience more comfortable by taking advantage of the unique interactive features of your iPad or Windows‡ 8 device.
Within the RBC Canada app you can:
- Quickly navigate to the information you need
- See your account holdings at-a-glance via interactive graphs
- Watch informational videos on relevant financial topics
- Connect to popular social media sites such as Facebook‡, YouTube‡ and Twitter‡.
18. What do I need to use the RBC Canada app?
Currently the RBC Canada app is available for the following devices:
- iPad with iOS versions 5.0 and greater
- Microsoft Windows 8 device operating on: ARM, x86 and x64
19. How do I download and install the RBC Canada app?
- iPad users: Download the app from Apple App Store
- Microsoft Windows 8 users: Download the app from the Windows Store‡

20. What does the Upcoming Payments icon do?
The Upcoming Payments icon allows you to view all future transactions in both calendar and list formats. You can see transactions in your personal or business accounts for the following 30 days and get more detail by selecting a date in the calendar. You also have the ability to delete any of them in real time.
Note: To delete a post-dated transaction, you must delete it before midnight on the day prior to the scheduled transaction date.
21. Can I add or modify Upcoming Payments?
No, users are only able to view and delete Upcoming Payments through the RBC Canada app. To add or modify post-dated transactions please go to Online Banking.
22. What language options are available for the RBC Canada app?

iPhone
23. How do I download and install the RBC Mobile app on my iPhone?
- First, launch the Apple App Store from your device and search for “RBC Mobile”
- Next, verify that the author of the app is Royal Bank of Canada
- If you are satisfied, click on the “Free” icon
- When the icon changes to “Install”, click on it again
- When prompted, enter your App Store credentials
- Once you’ve completed the above step, the app will be automatically downloaded and installed onto your device.
24. How do I uninstall/delete the RBC Mobile app on the iPhone?
Highlight and hold down the RBC Mobile icon on your screen. There will be an 'x' mark located on the upper-right hand corner of the icon. Tap the 'x' mark and the app will be automatically deleted from your device.
25. What does the Upcoming Payments icon do?
'Upcoming Payments' are post-dated payments and transfers that you have set up in Online Banking. The Upcoming Payments icon allows you to View all future transactions in any of your personal or business accounts for the following 30 days and have the ability to delete any of them in real time. Note: To delete a post-dated transaction, you must complete the delete operation before midnight on the day prior to the scheduled transaction date.
26. Can I add or modify a post-dated transaction with the Upcoming Payments functionality?
No, at present the Upcoming Payment functionality does not include the ability to add or modify post-dated transactions. To do so, please go to Online Banking.
27. I tried to delete a post-dated transaction scheduled for today, but it did not work: Why?
To delete a post-dated transaction, you must complete the Delete operation before midnight on the day prior to the scheduled transaction date.
RBC Direct Investing and Dominion Securities
28. What type of investments am I able to trade using the RBC Mobile application?
RBC Direct Investing clients can place trades on Canadian and U.S stocks, mutual funds, ETFs and options using the RBC Mobile Application.
29. Do I have access to real time Quotes?
Yes, you are able to access real time quotes for equities, options and option chains. Clients who qualify for the RBC Direct Investing Active Trader program (clients who trade 30 or more times per quarter) will also have access to Level II quotes. Please note: In order to receive real time quotes all agreements with the applicable exchanges must have been accepted within RBC Direct Investing and Dominion Securities online.
30. When I try to log into RBC Direct Investing using the RBC Mobile app I receive the following message: To access this application, please sign in to RBC Direct Investing to review and consent to the terms and conditions outlined in the exchange agreements. Why do I receive this message?
This message appears if you haven’t reviewed and accepted all of the relevant Canadian and U.S exchange agreements. In order for RBC Direct Investing to provide you with real time quotes through the RBC Mobile app, you must accept the Canadian and U.S exchange agreements, to do so please:
- Sign into the RBC Direct Investing online investing site
- Select ‘Edit Profile’ link beside your name in the upper right corner
- Select ‘Manage Canadian and U.S. Exchange Agreements’ under the Online Investing Preference heading
- Review and accept all of the relevant exchange agreements.
Once you have accepted the agreements you will be able to access your RBC Direct Investing accounts using the RBC Mobile app.
31. Can I transfer funds from my RBC Royal Bank banking account to and from RBC Direct Investing or RBC Dominion Securities?
You are able to transfer funds between your linked RBC banking accounts and your RBC Direct Investing accounts. You are able to transfer funds from your linked RBC personal and small business banking account to your Dominion Securities accounts.
32. Do I have the ability to create and manage my watchlists?
Yes, you are able to create, modify, and delete watchlists at RBC Direct Investing and Dominion Securities using the RBC Mobile app. Changes made through the RBC Mobile app will reflect in your online profile.
33. Do I have the ability to view the status of my orders with RBC Direct Investing using the RBC Mobile app?
Yes, you do have the ability to view the status of your orders with RBC Direct Investing for stocks, mutual funds, ETFs and options. You also have the ability to modify the status of stocks; ETFs and option orders in real time.
34. What market information do I have access to using the RBC Mobile app?
Through both RBC Direct Investing and RBC Dominion Securities you are able to access real-time quotes, news and information using the RBC Mobile app. Please Note: Real time quotes are dependant upon accepting exchange agreements within RBC Direct Investing and/or RBC Dominion Securities online.
35. Is the RBC Mobile App synchronized with my online accounts?
Yes. Any transaction placed on the mobile application for RBC Direct Investing and Dominion Securities will reflect online. Therefore we are only able to support one active session at a given time – either Online or Mobile.
36. Can I create, and manage alerts using the RBC Mobile app?
Not yet, however, with RBC Direct Investing you can manage the delivery of your existing alerts.
37. Can I trade fixed income products using the RBC Mobile App?
Currently the app does not support fixed income trades
38. What Device types can I use to access RBC Direct Investing and Dominion Securities?
While the RBC Mobile app available for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry, Note: RBC Direct Investing and Dominion Securities functionality and accounts can only be accessed using the iPhone, and iPod touch.
39. How long will a news article remain in the RBC Mobile News tab when viewing the detailed quote of an exchange or security?
News articles for individual exchanges and securities will remain in the detailed quotes news tab for 18 hours.
40. How is the language setting of my account in RBC Mobile determined?
The language display of the RBC Mobile App is based on the language setting of your device. For example, if your device language is set to French; all screens, including your account, will be displayed in French.
41. Can I trade weekly options using the RBC Mobile App?
Yes, you are able to purchase weekly options on the RBC Mobile App by entering the weekly option symbol in the symbol field of the order entry flow.
42. I cannot transfer funds or place a Mutual Fund order using a decimal when my phone language is set to French, is there a work around?
Yes, in order to transfer funds or place a Mutual Fund order while your device language is set to French simply replace the decimal with a comma for example: Amount – $1350,00. You can also change your language setting to English.
43. Why do I sometimes receive a time out error message after only a few minutes of inactivity while logged into the RBC Mobile App?
Thank you for your patience. We are aware of this issue, and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We are working diligently to correct this; We will advise you as soon as we have an update.
BlackBerry
44. How do I download and install the RBC Mobile app on my BlackBerry?
From BlackBerry App World:
- Click on the App World icon on your device and search for “RBC Mobile”.
- Once found, verify that the author of the app is Royal Bank of Canada
- If you are satisfied, click “Download”.
- Enter your App World credentials when prompted.
- Once you’ve completed the above step, the app will automatically be downloaded and installed onto your device. Remember to reset your BlackBerry as instructed.
45. How do I sign-out of the app?
The RBC Mobile app was designed to leverage specific device capabilities as client expect from a full integrated native app. So, to sign-out of the app, you will need to click on the Menu key and select “Sign out”.
46. How do I uninstall/delete the RBC Mobile app on the BlackBerry?
Highlight the RBC Mobile icon on your screen, click on the Menu key and select “Delete”. You will be prompted to delete the app. Once you’ve confirmed, the app will be automatically deleted from your device.
Android
47. What is Android?
Android is an operating system (OS) for mobile devices that’s owned by Google Inc. Various manufacturers of mobile devices, such as Samsung, HTC, etc. have entered into license agreements with Google to install the Android OS on their respective devices.
48. Is the Android RBC Mobile app compatible across mobile devices?
RBC supports the Android OS (versions 2.1, 2.2, 2.3) and not specific brands of devices. As long as a device runs a version of the Android OS that we support, that device should be able to run the RBC Mobile app.
49. What is the difference between iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices?
An Android device is essentially a hybrid of iPhone and BlackBerry. A user can swipe and tap on an Android screen just like an iPhone; and, at the same time, Android has menu options similar to those of BlackBerry. Currently, RBC Direct Investing and RBC Dominion Securities are only available to iPhone users.
50. Is the Android phone the same as a Windows phone?
No, they are different types of phones. Currently, the RBC Mobile app does not run on Windows phones.
51. How do I install the RBC Mobile app on my Android device?
- On your Android phone, go to Android Market, locate the RBC app and download it.
- An "↓" icon will appear in the upper left hand corner of the screen. If you hold and drag downwards the "↓" icon, you will be given the option to install.
- Once the app is installed successfully, you can bring the RBC Mobile icon to your front screen by holding down on the icon.
52. Why does accessing the app for the first time take so long compared to subsequent times?
During the initial load time, the RBC Mobile app needs to download more information from our servers.
53. Why am I intermittently receiving a “No Internet Connection” error even though I have connectivity?
recognize that some of our clients may infrequently receive this error message, but we are working towards correcting this problem as quickly as possible.
54. How do I uninstall/delete the RBC Mobile app on the Android device?
Go to Settings, then Applications and then Managed Applications. Locate and select the RBC Mobile app and then select “uninstall”. This will automatically delete the app from your device.
55. How do I sign-out of the app?
The RBC Mobile app was designed to leverage specific device capabilities as client expect from a full integrated native app. So, to sign-out of the app, you will need to tap on the Menu key and then select “Sign out”.
Security
56. Is my password saved on the device?
No, the RBC Mobile app does not save your password on your device. However, client card numbers/usernames that you save using the Remember Me function (for quicker and easier login), are saved on the device. We take the precaution of encrypting all such data for your security. In addition, “remembered” client card numbers are displayed with some digits masked to further protect your information.
57. What happens if I lose my device?
If your device is lost or stolen, it is unlikely that anyone could access your account information unless they also know your client card number and password. However, to be safe, you should contact RBC as soon as possible by calling 1-800-769-2555 to reset your password. You should also call your carrier to have them disable your device.
58. Do you guarantee that RBC Mobile transactions are secure?
Yes, whether you bank or invest through an RBC online service, RBC Mobile or RBC Canada app you are covered by an Online Security Guarantee. If an unauthorized transaction is conducted through your RBC Royal Bank, RBC Direct Investing or RBC Dominion Securities accounts through RBC Mobile, you will be reimbursed 100% for any resulting losses to those accounts.
59. What can I do to protect my security and privacy?
Just like when you bank online from your computer, there are some simple steps you can take to ensure the security of your information and the protection of your privacy when you use the RBC mobile app:
- Protect your password. It is your key to accessing your accounts. Do not reveal it to anyone.
- Memorize your password. Never store it on your mobile device, or write it down.
- Don’t choose passwords that incorporate your name, telephone number, address or birthday or those of any close friend or relative.
- Never leave your mobile device unattended while using the RBC Mobile app.
- Ensure that you download the app created by Royal Bank of Canada. Just to be safe, you can go to our site at www.rbcroyalbank.com/mobileapps and you will be directed to our app on the appropriate store according to your device.
