1. How many scholarships are available and what is their value?

Each recipient receives a single scholarship worth $10,000.

There are a total of six (6) RBC Scholarship for Undergraduates. Four (4) are available to all eligible applicants, including RBC Royal Bank clients. Two (2)are reserved exclusively for RBC Royal Bank clients.

* If you have indicated that you are an RBC Royal Bank client, your status as an account holder will be verified at the close of the scholarship application acceptance period on February 16, 2010. Account(s) must be active and in good standing as of February 1, 2010 and at the announcement period. If status as an account holder cannot be verified or the account is not active or in good standing at the time of winner announcement, the applicant will not be eligible for the two scholarships offered to RBC Royal Bank clients but will remain eligible for the four other Undergraduate scholarships.

2. What is the deadline for applications?

Online applications must be submitted before Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. EST.

3. What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for the RBC Royal Bank Scholarship for Undergraduates, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Students who are in their graduating year of High School or CEGEP Students who will be enrolled full-time in a publicly funded Canadian university or college in the Fall 2010 academic term
  • Undergraduate students enrolled full-time in a publicly funded Canadian university or college in the 2009/2010 academic year.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA equivalent to a 70% average
  • You need to be enrolled as a full time student

4. How do I know if my college or university is "publicly funded"?

Please contact our RBC Royal Bank Student Scholarship Centre for more details.

5. I attend or plan on attending a college or university outside of Canada, but I am a Canadian citizen. Am I eligible to apply?

No. You must be attending a college or university in Canada.

6. I plan on attending a post-secondary school outside of Canada next year as part of a year-abroad program – am I still eligible to apply?

You may still be eligible to apply provided you are participating in an exchange program as part of your course curriculum at a publicly funded Canadian college or university (your graduation diploma must be issued from a Canadian college or university).

7. I'm planning on taking a year off, am I still eligible to apply?

No. If you intend to take the year off after you submit your application, you are not eligible to apply – however, you can always apply for the year you plan to resume your studies

8. How will my application be judged?

Your written entries will be evaluated on a combination of creativity, clarity of thought and communication of arguments, persuasiveness and potential positive impact. We recommend you be direct and succinct in order to answer the questions within the maximum word count allowed. Also, use examples, be clear and concise, and make sure your entries are proofed for spelling/grammar errors. See Scholarship Terms and Conditions for complete details.

9. Who will be judging my application?

A judging panel comprised of post-secondary school educators, industry experts, RBC Royal Bank employees, and our scholarship administrator Studentawards Inc. will be responsible for evaluating the entries.

10. Will the information I submit be verified?

Our scholarship administrator, Studentawards Inc., may verify the information you provide about your extracurricular, volunteer or employment activities by directly contacting the individuals you have named in your application.

Additionally, all finalists will be required to provide proof of the following:

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
  • For graduating high school or CEGEP students, full-time Canadian post-secondary school enrolment for the Fall 2010 academic term
  • For full-time university or college students, proof of enrolment in a publicly funded Canadian institution for the 2009/2010 academic year
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average

If the documentation is not submitted to the scholarship administrator, Studentawards Inc., within the specified timeframe, the application may be subject to disqualification.

If the information cannot be verified within the specified timeframe, the application may be subject to disqualification.

11. When will the finalists be notified?

Finalists of the RBC Royal Bank Scholarship for Undergraduates will be notified in March 2010. Information submitted by finalists will be verified between February and March 2010.

Final winners will be selected and announced in April 2010.

12. Is the information I submit in my application confidential?

Yes**. The information you provide will be used by RBC Royal Bank, Studentawards Inc., and their respective employees and agents and those of their affiliates on a need to know basis to process, judge and verify your application(s) on a confidential basis and to operate your online account(s). However, the information you supply in your application(s) may be used or published in aggregate by RBC Royal Bank in order to define and understand patterns and trends. Any contact information you provide in your application(s) will only be used to contact you regarding the status of your application(s) or to contact your friend if you have provided us with your friend’s contact information, except as otherwise agreed to in the application form or in the Legal Terms of Use. **In the event that you are a scholarship winner, RBC Royal Bank reserves the right to use your name, likeness, city and province of residence, university name and any direct quotes for publicity purposes.

Confidentiality and privacy are of the utmost importance at RBC Royal Bank and Studentawards Inc. For more details, please see the RBC Royal Bank privacy website and/or the Studentawards privacy website.

13. Who owns the ideas I submit in my application?

Your submission remains your intellectual property, and RBC Royal Bank retains no rights to your ideas – the information you supply will be used solely to adjudicate your scholarship application.

14. If I’m selected as a recipient, when will I receive the Scholarship?

If you are already attending a publicly funded university or college in the 2009/2010 academic year, the scholarship will be deposited into your student account with the educational institution in May 2010.

If you are planning to attend a publicly funded university or college in the Fall 2010 academic term, the scholarship will be deposited into your student account in August 2010 at your enrolled post secondary school for the 2010/2011 academic year pending proof of enrolment.

15. Do I have to be an RBC Royal Bank client to be awarded a scholarship?

No, you do not have to be an RBC Royal Bank client in order to receive a scholarship. Two of the six scholarships are exclusively reserved for RBC Royal Bank clients leaving four of the available scholarships for students who may or may not be RBC Royal Bank clients.

16. What if I become an RBC Royal Bank client after I’ve submitted my application?

Please contact our Student Support Centre and inform them of the change. Account(s) must be active and in good standing as of February 1, 2010 and the recipient announcement period. If status as an account holder cannot be verified or the account is not active or in good standing at the time of winner announcement, the applicant will not be eligible for the two scholarships offered to RBC Royal Bank clients but will remain eligible for the four other Undergraduate scholarships.

17. If I am an RBC Royal Bank client, am I only eligible for two scholarships?

No, you are eligible for all six scholarships providing you meet all of the eligibility criteria.
