Manitoba Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

WHAT IT IS: An annual awards program hosted by the Women Business Owners of Manitoba, Winnipeg Chapter, to recognize those women whose energies and creativity represent the best of the entrepreneurial spirit of women business owners in Manitoba and who will stand as inspiring role models to tomorrow's emerging business leaders. Award categories include: Excellence in Service, International Trade, Lifetime Achievement, Home Enterprise, Building Business, Contribution to Community and Emerging Business.

WHAT YOU GET:Winners and finalists from across the province are honoured at a gala dinner. The awards evening is extensively publicized in the region.

Cost: No fee for submitting nominations.

WHO QUALIFIES: The nominee is either an equal partner, a 50% (or more) shareholder, or sole owner in a business that has been registered and in operation in Manitoba for a minimum of three consecutive years. Her operation is a full-time venture and from it she draws her main source of income.

RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Awards (CWEA)

WHAT IT IS: An annual national awards program to recognize and celebrate outstanding accomplishments of women entrepreneurs, which culminates in an awards ceremony in the fall. Categories include RBC Momentum Award, Innovation Award, Start-up Award, Trailblazer Award, Exporter Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

WHAT YOU GET: National recognition of your achievements as a Canadian woman entrepreneur and an 18-karat brooch by Tiffany & Co., designed to embody the values of successful entrepreneurship.

COST: No fee for submitting nominations.

WHO QUALIFIES: Nominees must have a controlling interest in a business registered and operating in Canada for at least three years. They must also be the acknowledged leader responsible for day-to-day management and the bottom line, and earning their primary income from the business.

NLOWE (Newfoundland & Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs) Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

WHAT IT IS: An annual awards program to recognize Newfoundland and Labrador’s women entrepreneurs, whose successful businesses and achievements contribute to the provincial economy and to their communities. Winners are selected from each region of the province. Two additional awards – the Youth Entrepreneur of the Year and the President’s Award, which salutes a person who has exhibited significant leadership characteristics that have supported and enhanced entrepreneurship – are also presented.

WHAT YOU GET: Winners are honoured at a gala dinner which receives extensive media coverage. Press releases are distributed to the winner’s local media outlets and winners are the focus of advertising and promotion. Past nominees, applicants and winners have found that the award program has opened new doors for them while generating respect and approval from their peers and customers.

COST: No fee for submitting nominations.

WHO QUALIFIES: Nominees must have been operating a viable business for a minimum of two full years. Ownership criteria depend upon the organizational structure of the business. Private companies, partnerships, franchisees and public companies are eligible.

Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100

WHAT IT IS: An annual national awards program under the leadership of Women's Executive Network (WXN), to recognize a unique array of proven achievers from many walks of life. An independent advisory board selects winners in eight categories: Corporate Executives, Entrepreneurs, Public Sector Leaders, Trailblazers & Trendsetters, Champions, Professionals, Future Leaders, and Arts & Communications.

WHAT YOU GET: National recognition of your achievements at events in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver

YWCA's Women of Distinction Awards

WHAT IT IS: A prestigious, cross-country awards program honouring women who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field.

WHO QUALIFIES: Nominees who have displayed an on-going commitment to their community and are acknowledged for their outstanding achievements in such areas as: encouraging other women in their chosen careers; helping women to achieve greater independence and success in traditional and non-traditional careers; achieving outstanding success in their chosen field; breaking new ground or old barriers; being agents for change in particular environments or the world at large; participating actively in the community on issues that directly affect women; working as volunteers to improve the lives of women and children in the community.

Extraordinary Woman of the Year Award

WHAT IT IS: Recognition for women who are unsung heroes accomplishing phenomenal results. The award was launched in 2002 by the Canadian Association of Women Executives & Entrepreneurs (CAWEE).

WHAT YOU GET: Sculpture, certificate and complimentary one-year membership in CAWEE.

WHO QUALIFIES: Open to both members and non-members of CAWEE. The four criteria for candidate submissions are: encourages and mentors women in their career goals; encourages and assists women to achieve their life goals - i.e. financial, family, health, talents, etc.; participated actively in the community on issues that directly affect women; and made personal sacrifices in the process of assisting other women. Candidates must agree to be nominated.

Sara Kirke Award for Women Entrepreneurs

WHAT IT IS: Part of CATA's Women in Technology (WIT) Forum, the Award is presented annually to the woman who has shown the most outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership – leadership that has significantly expanded the frontiers of Canada's advanced technology industry. The winner is announced at CATA's annual Innovation Awards Gala held in June.

WHO QUALIFIES: CATAWIT members who have demonstrated consistent innovation and leadership skills, resulting in the creation and international acceptance of significant world-class products and/or services. Contributions to achieving a more competitive investment climate in Canada are also taken into account. Selection criteria include: technological innovation, corporate leadership, notable achievements in their particular area of expertise, and community involvement/mentorship.
