What's Next for Chip and PIN

For now, it's business as usual. The conversion to Chip and PIN technology will take time and for now you can continue to use your current RBC® credit card at any store, restaurant or ATM with confidence, just as you do today. Your RBC Chip and PIN credit card will be sent to you when your current card expires so there is nothing for you to do.

To ensure a smooth transition to Chip and PIN technology and for continued acceptance at non-chip-enabled stores and restaurants (including countries that have not yet converted to chip technology), all RBC Chip and PIN credit cards will contain both a chip and a magnetic stripe.

Important: Rest assured that all transactions are just as secure as ever, whether completed with an Chip and PIN card or with a magnetic stripe card. You continue to be protected by the Zero Liability policy.

In addition, you have the option to enrol in programs like Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode, FirstReport-Credit (opens external website in new window) and FirstReport-ID (opens external website in new window) and RBC Road Assist (opens external website in new window) for even more security and peace of mind. RBC continually upgrades its fraud detection systems to protect cardholders and will continue to do so.
