If you experience a medical emergency in Canada, call 9-1-1.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-get-a-driver-s-licence-if-applicable\">Get a driver&#8217;s licence (if applicable)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Within city centers, you will usually find an efficient bus and subway network and, increasingly, a network of cycling infrastructure. But if you live outside of a city center or just prefer driving, you will need a Canadian provincial driver&#8217;s licence to drive a car in Canada.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the country you are from and how much driving experience you have, you might simply need to trade in your foreign driver\u2019s licence for a Canadian licence, or you may need to take the knowledge and road tests. The public school systems are run by each province and go from kindergarten to postsecondary education. Schooling is mandatory from Grade 1 (though many provinces offer publicly-funded kindergarten from age 4 or 5).
