While your bank will do its part to keep your financial information safe and secure, there are simple steps you can take to proactively protect yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online banking is a safe way to manage your money, as reputable financial institutions implement robust security measures to protect your money and your information. As cybercriminals are always looking for weaknesses, however, there are steps you can take on your own to keep your financial and personal data safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-grey-background-color has-background\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbc.com\/cyber-security\/_assets-custom\/pdf\/banking_safely_online_checklist.pdf\" data-dig-id=\"LP-89697-91cf6bd5\" data-dig-category=\"LP\" data-dig-action=\"link click\" data-dig-label=\"Click here to print\" class=\"rbc-link-format standalone-pdf\" data-icon-class=\"standalone-pdf\">Click here to print<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Two- or multi-factor authentication on your mobile app&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Enable 2-step verification in the RBC Mobile app. This will help ensure it\u2019s only you who has access to your bank accounts online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Auto-deposit for e-transfers&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With&nbsp;<em>Interac<\/em>&nbsp;e-Transfer Auto-deposit, there\u2019s no need to log into your Online Banking or answer a security question to receive an e-Transfer. This service eliminates the need for a security question and answer in every transaction lessening the risk that someone unintended could intercept the funds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Card Lock<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can lock your RBC client card or credit card temporarily at any time. Use Card Lock if you\u2019ve misplaced your card by simply logging in to the RBC Mobile app and navigating to your account details page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alerts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Alerts are a free service that helps you manage your money and stay on top of upcoming offers. Financial Alerts are sent in near-real time about specific activity on your accounts and can help you avoid unexpected fees or interest charges, and quickly spot any unusual activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-grey-background-color has-background\">You can easily customize your Alerts in RBC Online Banking or the RBC Mobile app&nbsp;to&nbsp;monitor&nbsp;unusual transaction&nbsp;activity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use strong security questions&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose not to enable auto-deposit, when sending money through&nbsp;<em>Interac<\/em>&nbsp;e-Transfer, ensure that your security questions are difficult to guess and avoid answers that can easily be found online or through your social media pages, like your pet\u2019s name, or your favourite vacation destination. Never send the answer to the security question in the message you add to the transfer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use a secure internet connection&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Steer clear of public Wi-Fi, especially if you\u2019re logging into any accounts with private or sensitive information, like your bank account.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What You Can Do:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-rbc-list default is-style-blue-disc\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default default\">Avoid logging into any accounts that hold private or sensitive information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p>Use a secure and encrypted VPN.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p>Be aware of who is around you and who may be looking over your&nbsp;shoulder.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use strong, complex passwords&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A strong password is critical to protecting your online accounts. Passwords are often the first defence against cyber criminals. They protect personal information, like your bank accounts, health data, or private documents from falling into the wrong hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What You Can Do:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-rbc-list default is-style-blue-disc\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default default\">Never share your passwords with anyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p>Don\u2019t use your Online Banking password for anything else. While it\u2019s best not to re-use any passwords at any time, it\u2019s especially important to use extra caution when it comes to sensitive information such as your bank account.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p>The longer, the better. Experts suggest creating passwords that are at least 12 characters long, ideally 16.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p>Reset your passwords regularly.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Review your bank account statements regularly&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Review your bank account statements regularly; if you see unknown purchases, that could be a sign that your identity has been stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protect your personal information<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t give away personal information to someone you don\u2019t know, even if they claim to be from a trusted company or your bank.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What You Can Do:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-rbc-list default is-style-blue-disc\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-rbc-list-item\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default default\">No matter how convincing the message, never provide your PIN, password, account numbers or one-time access code to anyone.
