Alberta

Class 5

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Two-axle single-motor vehicles, excluding a motorcycle
  • Two-axle motor vehicles towing a trailer with one or more axles, if the trailer is not equipped with airbrakes
  • Recreational vehicles or any combination of a recreational vehicle and a trailer, if the trailer has no more than two axles and is not equipped with airbrakes
  • Mopeds
  • Vehicles listed under Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 (as a learner only)

Class 6

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Motorcycles
  • Mopeds
  • All vehicles under Class 5 (as a learner only)

Class 5 6

Allows the holder to operate:

  • All vehicles under Class 5
  • Motorcycles
  • Mopeds

Class 7

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Mopeds
  • Vehicles under Class 5 (as a learner only)
  • Motorcycles, as a learner only, if the operator is at least 16 years of age

New Brunswick

Class 5

Allows the holder to operate any:

  • Two-axle motor vehicle, except a taxi, ambulance or bus
  • Three-axle motorhome
  • Three-axle motor vehicle, other than any type of truck designed for use in highway construction, maintenance and repair
  • Vehicle that weighs 4,500 kg or less and is towed behind a motor vehicle or motorhome

Class 6 (All Motorcycles)

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Motorcycles
  • All vehicles under Classes 6D and 9 on a street or highway

Class 5 6

Allows the holder to operate all vehicles under Class 5 and Class 6.

Class 6D

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Motorcycles up to and including 550 ccs
  • Class 9 vehicles on a street or highway

Class 7 Graduated Licence - Level II

This is an instructional licence that allows a driver to gain experience before becoming a fully licensed driver. This licence places no restrictions on the number of passengers allowed in the vehicle.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Class 5 (Regular Driver's Licence)

Allows the holder to operate:

  • All motor vehicles with 2 axles or less and a combination of vehicles where the towed vehicle does not exceed 4,500 kgs
  • Buses, taxis and ambulances while not carrying passengers
  • Self-propelled motorhomes with 2 or more axles
  • Farm tractors
  • Fork lifts
  • Emergency vehicles (excluding ambulances)
  • Trucks designed for off-highway use
  • Backhoes

Class 6 (Full Motorcycle Licence)

Allows the holder to operate motorcycles.

Class 5 6

Allows the holder to operate all vehicles under Class 5 and Class 6.

51 (Novice Driver Class 5, Level I Learner)

Allows the holder to operate passenger vehicles and light trucks with certain restrictions.

52 (Novice Driver Class 5, Level II Learner)

Allows the holder to operate passenger vehicles and light trucks with certain restrictions (fewer restrictions than Level 1).

Northwest Territories

Class 5

Allows the holder to operate:

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Motorcycles
  • Vehicles under Class 5 (as a learner only)

Class 5 6

Allows the holder to operate vehicles under Class 5 and Class 6.

Class 5

Class 5

Ontario

Class G (Full Unrestricted Licence)

Allows the holder to operate any car, van or small truck or combination of vehicle and towed vehicle up to 11,000 kg provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kg.

Class G1 (Level 1 of Graduated Licensing)

Allows the holder to operate Class G vehicles when accompanied by a fully licensed driver with at least four years of driving experience. Additional conditions apply.

Class G2 (Level 2 of Graduated Licensing)

Allows the holder to operate Class G vehicles without an accompanying driver but subject to certain conditions.

Class M (Regular Motorcycle Licence)

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Motorcycles, including a limited-speed motorcycle (motor scooter) and a motor-assisted bicycle (moped)
  • Class G vehicles under the conditions that apply to a Class G1 licence holder

Class GM (Full Unrestricted Licence)

Allows the holder to operate vehicles under Class G and Class M.

Class G2M

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Class G vehicles under the conditions that apply to a Class G2 licence holder
  • Motorcycles, including a limited-speed motorcycle (motor scooter) and a motor-assisted bicycle (moped)

Class 5

Quebec

Class 5 (Passenger Vehicle)

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Passenger vehicles (automobiles or mini-vans) or trucks, with two axles whose net weight is less than 4,500 kg
  • Motorhomes
  • Tool vehicles (motor vehicles in which the work station is contained within the driver's compartment, manufactured to carry out a task and designed to travel at a maximum speed of 70 km/h)
  • Service vehicles (vehicles equipped to supply, repair or tow motor vehicles)
  • Mopeds or motorized scooters
  • Farm tractors
  • Any vehicle covered by this class hauling a trailer or in the case of a motorhome, another vehicle

Class 6A (All Motorcycles)

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Any motorcycle
  • Vehicles in Class 6D and Class 8

Class 6B

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Any motorcycle with a cylinder size of 400 cc or less
  • Vehicles in Class 6D and Class 8

Class 6C

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Any motorcycle with a cylinder size of 125 cc or less
  • Vehicles in Class 6D and Class 8

Class 6D

Allows the holder to operate a moped or motorized scooter.

Class 8

Allows the holder to operate a farm tractor.

Yukon

Class 5

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Two-axle, single-motor vehicles, other than a motorcycle, that do not exceed 11,000 kg gross weight
  • Any combination of vehicles where the towed vehicle in the combination does not exceed a registered gross vehicle weight of 4,550 kg
  • Any vehicle under Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 while the driver is learning to operate it
  • Snowmobiles or all terrain vehicles (ATVs) on or across Yukon highways (permitted only under certain conditions)

Class 6

Allows the holder to operate:

  • Motorcycles
  • Mopeds

Class 5 6

Allows the holder to operate vehicles under Class 5 and Class 6.
