Do you know how you want to fill your time once you’ve stopped working? If you said “no”, you’re not alone! Check out this quick video to see what other Canadians have to say about it:
Think About How You’ll Fill Your 2,000 Hours
When you stop working, you gain 40+ hours of free time a week. This may sound wonderful (and oftentimes, it is), but for some, the sudden change can lead to boredom, isolation and a decreased sense of purpose.
So, as you plan ahead for your retirement, don’t just think about the numbers—also think about what you want your retirement to look like. At RBC, we call this approach, “Your Future by Design®”.
Your Future by Design is a discovery process that you walk through with an RBC Financial Planner. By asking the right questions, we can help you figure out what you want your retirement to look like. After we understand your goals, we look at what you own, what you owe, and where you stand—to design your plan.
1. Your Financial Planner will give you 8 “priority cards” that are designed to help you think through what you want out of retirement.
2. After reviewing the cards at home or with your Financial Planner, you pick your top 3 priorities from the 8 cards. For example, you may find that family, your legacy and your home are most important to you in retirement.
3. This process helps you figure out your goals and priorities and gives your Financial Planner insights to build your unique retirement plan!
What’s on the 8 cards?
The cards cover the topics below and include questions to get you thinking about:
