Do you sell your products or services outside of a traditional store or office? Then PAYD is for you. Many business owners are already using PAYD, such as artisans, photographers, registered massage therapists, estheticians, personal fitness trainers, dog walkers, house cleaners, contractors and more.
Here are some of the key features and benefits of PAYD:
- Payment processing everywhere you go. Simply swipe your customer's credit card for in-person sales or key in the credit card number.
- Easy customer checkout. A payment receipt can be e-mailed directly to your customer.
- Secured by Moneris. Card data is encrypted at the time of swipe and transmitted over SSL for added security. Simple and affordable pricing. When you swipe any Visa‡ card or MasterCard‡ with PAYD, you pay only 2.75% on swiped transactions and 2.95% on keyed transactions. No additional fees for keyed transactions. There are no complex fees or hidden costs.
- Freedom from commitments. There is no fixed-term obligation or minimum processing limits to use PAYD.
- Real-time reporting. View transaction history and reports on your mobile device or online, anytime. Keep track of all your customer transactions, including cash.
You are on: Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is PAYD? This is the first time I’ve heard of it. When was it launched?
PAYD is a small electronic credit card reader that plugs into the audio port of most Apple, Android, and BlackBerry devices, allowing credit cards to be swiped on the spot for ease-of-use. It was launched in February 2012 by Moneris Solutions, specifically for small business owners who sell their products and services in a non-storefront environment.
2. What makes PAYD different from a regular (Moneris) credit card processing terminal?
PAYD is a simplified mobile solution that currently only accepts Visa and MasterCard through keyed in or swiped transactions. You can e-mail receipts electronically to your customers. Signatures can be obtained if you’re using any Apple device. PAYD relies on a simplified pricing structure with no contracts and is ideal for business owners who are on the go or are just starting out.
Moneris’ terminals have the ability to process credit and debit cards through a variety of payment options, including magnetic stripe, Chip & PIN, and contactless readers. Many of the Moneris terminals come with a built-in receipt printer and PIN pad, and may be able to accept gift cards and loyalty cards for further payment flexibility.
3. I’ve heard about another mobile service offered by Moneris. What’s the difference between the two systems?
Moneris has two mobile applications that allow merchants to transfer their smart phone or tablet into a mobile payment device: PAYD and eSelect plus Mobile App. Both applications allow merchants to swipe or key in a credit card, manage cash and e-mail a receipt to their customer.
PAYD is the ideal mobile solution for small office/home office (SOHO) business owners processing less than $5,000 per month (such as trade show vendors, photographers, personal fitness trainers, contractors, interior designers, artists, massage therapists). eSelect plus is Moneris’ e-commerce and web based payment terminal solution. The App is a Mobile optimized version of the web payment terminal that allows merchants to accept credit card payments wherever they go and is ideal for business owners with processing volume greater than $5,000 per month.
PAYD has simple pricing with no contract or penalty, whereas, for eSelect plus, merchants would need to sign a standard agreement and pay the standard processing fees.
4. Are there specific smart phone models that are compatible with PAYD?
The PAYD
™ Mobile App is currently available for use on many Apple, Blackberry, and Android devices. Some exceptions may apply. Please visit

to view a list of compatible devices.
5. Will I be charged data fees when I use PAYD on my smart phone?
If a merchant is using PAYD while connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, they will not be charged data fees. If the merchant is not connected to a Wi-Fi, PAYD will use very small amounts of data to process the payment.
6. Does PAYD accept magnetic stripe and chip credit cards?
Merchants can either key in the card number or swipe the card to process the transaction. PAYD does not currently have chip functionality.
7. After I processes the customer’s credit card, does the customer need to sign anything or enter their PIN?
After the merchant swipes the customer’s credit card on an Apple device, a screen will pop up allowing the merchant the option to capture the customer’s signature. Merchants using a BlackBerry or Android smart phone would need the customer to sign a paper-based credit card transaction slip for their own records.
8. How secure are these transactions processed over a smart phone?
The service is backed by the security of Moneris’ existing web-based payment processing platform, allowing merchants to access their accounts, transactions and history in a secure manner.
9. What about customer privacy? Do smart phones retain any credit card information?
The PAYD card reader is designed to encrypt credit card data at the moment it is swiped and transmits the card data over SSL for added security. The smart phone itself does not retain any credit card information.
10. If I already have a Moneris card processing terminal, can I get PAYD too?
If an existing Moneris merchant wants to expand their business to accept payments on their smart phone or tablet devices, eSelect plus Mobile App is the ideal solution.
11. How long does it take to process a PAYD application?
A decision regarding the merchant’s application will be provided within 24 to 48 hours. Once approved, the merchant should receive their card reader by courier within approximately seven business days of receiving their “welcome” e-mail.
