For accounts opened on October 1, 2026 or after, the $120 annual fee will be charged on the 1st day of the month following your account open date. Here’s an example how the fee will be applied:

  • Account open date: October 1, 2026
  • Account anniversary: November 1 every year
  • In 2026, a $120 annual fee will be posted on November 1, 2026 on your account statement.

Yes, the annual fee for additional cardholders will increase from $0 to $50 as of October 1, 2026. Annual fees are charged on the first day of the month following account opening and annually thereafter on the first day of that same month.

Yes, RBC VIP Banking account holders will still be eligible to get up to $120 rebate on annual credit card fees for your RBC Cash Back Preferred World Elite Mastercard. If you already have a VIP account, the rebate will be applied at the time you open your RBC Cash Back Preferred World Elite Mastercard account. Your Purchase Annual Interest Rate (“APR”) will be increased from 20.99% to 21.99% as follows:

  • The new rate (21.99%) will take effect on the first day of your statement period beginning on or after October 1, 2026.
  • The increased rate will not apply to transactions posted to your account before October 1, 2026. Only transactions posted on or after this date will reflect the new APR. The updated APR will first appear on statements printed starting in November 2026.

The cash back earn rate applicable to your transaction will be based on the transaction posting date, not the purchase date. Here’s what this means for you:

  • You will benefit from the new earn rates on transactions posted to your credit card account on or after October 1, 2026, provided the merchant is classified by Mastercard by at least one eligible Merchant Category Code (MCC)legal disclaimer 1
    • 3% cash back on eligible purchases on:
      • Grocery stores
      • Dining (restaurants & takeout)
      • Gas
      • EV charging
      • Transit
      • Rideshare
      • Streaming services
      • Digital Gaming
    • 1% cash back on all other eligible purchases.
  • The current cash back earn rates will apply to transactions posted to your credit card account before October 1, 2026.

The cash back credits adjustment for a return or an adjustment is based on the earn rate in effect at the time the return or the adjustment is processed, not the original purchase date. Here’s how it works:

  • Returns are treated as separate transactions: The cash back credit deducted from your cash back balance reflects the rate applicable when the return occurs, not when the purchase was made.
  • For example, if you earned 2% cash back on a purchase before October 1, 2026, and returned it on October 16, 2026 (when the rate already changed to 3% for eligible purchases), the adjustment to your cash back balance would be based on the 3% rate.

Starting October 1, 2026, you will earn 3% cash back on eligible grocery stores, dining (restaurants & takeout), gas, EV charging, transit, rideshare, streaming, and digital gaming purchases made at merchants classified with an eligible Merchant Category Code (“MCC”).

For the list of eligible MCC, consult the RBC Royal Bank Cash Back Program Terms and Conditions available at (https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-cards/cardholders/additional-documents/rbc-cash-back-credit-cards-terms-and-conditions.pdf).

Costco and Walmart are classified as warehouse clubs rather than traditional grocery stores. As a result, purchases at these retailers will earn 1% cash back instead of the accelerated 3% on grocery stores purchases.

Starting October 1, 2026, the annual spending cap on cash back credits will be completely removed. This means you’ll be able to earn unlimited cash back credits on all eligible net purchases with no maximum limit.

Here’s what this change means for you:

  • No spending cap: Whether you’re making everyday purchases or planning big expenses, every eligible transaction will contribute to your cash back balance without restriction at the rate applicable to the type of purchase.
  • More rewards, more flexibility: Maximize your earnings across all categories, including grocery stores, dining, gas, and more, without worrying about hitting a cap.

Starting December 2, 2026, you’ll enjoy even more flexibility when redeeming your cash back reward:

  • Online and Mobile Banking: Redeem anytime through your Online Banking portal or the RBC Mobile App with a minimum redemption of $1.
  • Phone redemption: Call 1-800-ROYAL-1-2 to redeem with the same $1 minimum.

Before December 2, 2026:

  • Call 1-800-ROYAL-1-2 to redeem with a minimum of $25.

No action is required from your end. Coverage will be in effect for any trips you depart on or after October 1, 2026, for 10 consecutive days if you are under 65 years of age, or the first 3 consecutive days if you are 65 years of age or older. All claims are subject to the terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions set out in the Certificate of Insurance.

These insurance coverages will be included with your card on or after October 1, 2026. To be eligible for coverage, a mobile device, prepaid travel, accommodations, and recreation arrangements for a trip must be purchased and paid in full with your RBC Cash Back Preferred World Elite Mastercard and/or with Avion points on or after October 1, 2026. All claims are subject to the terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions set out in the Certificates of Insurance.

You have the option to close your credit card account and cancel your RBC Royal Bank Credit Card Agreement without cost, penalty or cancellation indemnity by notifying us before December 30, 2026, and by paying the total amount you owe on your credit card account. If you feel the enhanced product isn't right for you, you have the option to switch to another RBC credit card product. This can be done through your Online Banking or Mobile Banking portal, or by contacting an advisor at 1-800-769-2512.

No, there will be no changes to your annual fee which will stay $0.

Your Purchase Annual Interest Rate will be increased from 20.99% to 21.99% as follows:

  • The increased rate will not apply to transactions posted before October 1, 2026. Only transactions posted on or after this date will reflect the new Purchase Annual Interest Rate. The updated Purchase Annual Interest Rate will first appear on account statements printed starting in November 2026.

  • 2% cash back on eligible purchases on:
    • Grocery stores
  • 1% cash back on eligible purchases on:
    • Gas
    • EV charging
    • Transit
    • Rideshare
  • 0.5% cash back on all other eligible purchases.

The current cash back earn rates will apply to transactions posted to your credit card account before October 1, 2026.

The cash back credits adjustment for a return is based on the earn rate in effect at the time the return is processed, not the original purchase date. Here’s how it works:

  • Returns are treated as separate transactions: The cash back credits deducted from your balance reflects the rate applicable when the return occurs, not when the purchase was made.
  • For example, if you earned 0.5% cash back on a purchase before October 1, 2026, and returned it on October 16, 2026 (when the rate already changed to 1% for eligible purchases), the adjustment to your cash back balance would be based on the 1% rate.

Starting October 1, 2026, you will earn 1% cash back on eligible gas, EV charging, and transit purchases made at merchants classified with an eligible Merchant Category Code (“MCC”).
