Report Heading Descriptions

To help you better understand your ACH Payment reports, here are detailed definitions of the headings that appear on the reports.

HEADING

DEFINITION

A

ACCOUNT NO.

Your transaction payments will be applied to this account number.

ACTION

Under this heading, you will see notices of any changes made to your transactions. There are six possible types of changes:

  1. ADD –  A payment was added to your file
  2. COR – Correction to a “T” error payment
  3. DEL – A payment was deleted
  4. CHANGED – A mass change was performed to your file
  5. DELETED – A mass delete was performed to your file
  6. REVERSED – A mass reversal was performed to your file

ATT

The primary contact name.

B

BUSINESS DATE

The date your report information was processed.

BUSINESS NAME

Your company’s name will appear on your reports.

C

CLIENT ID

Your unique profile identification number. You will need this to access your services and accounts.

CORRESPONDENT BANK

Means a Participating Financial Institution that holds deposits owned by another Financial Institution and provides payment other services to those FI. This is one of the banks that is involved with the movement of ACH payments destined to the United States.

CREDIT/DEBIT ACCOUNT NO.

This is the account that will be debited or credited with your payment.

CURRENCY (CUR)

The currency of your payments. It can be in either Canadian funds (CAD) or US funds (USD).

CUSTOMER # START

In a mass request, your customers are listed by number, and this heading refers to the first customer in the list.

CUSTOMER NUMBER

The unique number assigned to identify each of your customers.

CUSTOMER NAME

The name of your customer or recipient of the payment.

CUSTOMER # END

In a mass request, your customers are listed by number, and this heading refers to the last customer in the list.

DAILY LIMIT

Your Daily Limit is the maximum total value of outstanding settlement obligations that RBC will assume for your organization. It is the maximum value of outstanding direct deposits that RBC has delivered, will deliver, or will have delivered in advance of your funding or settling for those direct deposits. RBC Royal Bank will establish your Daily Limit. A separate Daily Limit is established for each currency.

DAILY LIMIT DATE(S)

The Daily Limit Date(s) spans from the Select Date of a direct deposit to its Value Date. In other words, it covers the days that it takes to deliver a direct deposit payment to the receiving financial institution to the day that the funds are available to the recipients.

DAYS TO DROP

The number of days remaining before your payments will be dropped permanently.

DESTINATION COUNTRY (DEST CTRY)

The country that a customer payment is to be made. Payments can be made to either Canada or the United States.

DESTINATION CURRENCY (DEST CUR)

The currency that a customer payment is to be made. Payments can be made in either Canadian dollars (CAD) or US dollars (USD).

DUE DATE

The date a payment is to be made.

DUE DATE START

The start date that payments have been affected by a mass request.

DUE DATE END

The end date that payments have been affected by a mass request.

EFFECTIVE ENTRY DATE

This is the date that the receiver is to receive their funds, and it corresponds to the Payment Due Date.

EXCHANGE RATE

The rate of exchange used for currency conversion.

F

FAX

Your fax number.

FILE CREATION DATE (FCD)

The day the file was created.

FILE CREATION NUMBER (FCN)

This is a mandatory 4-digit number that you assign to your transaction files.

FILE RECEIVED (DEBIT)

The total amount of file(s) received and processed.

FOREIGN EQUIVALENT

The equivalent dollar amount converted from CDN dollars to USD, and vice versa.

FREQUENCY

The frequency a file is submitted for processing as per a pre-set schedule.

FROM AMOUNT

The starting payment amount in a mass request.

FROM EXISTING ACCOUNT

This heading shows the following banking information for your payments sent to financial institutions in Canada:

  1. The bank number (4 digits)
  2. The branch number (5 digits)
  3. The account number (12 digits)

GRADSACCOUNT NO. (GSAN)

The Global Receivables & Disbursement Service Account Number (GRADS) uniquely identifies you within this system, by service. This 10 digit number is also referred to as the client account number or the GSAN number.

I

IMPACT

The dollar amount that the activity will change the value date by.

IMPACT AMOUNT

The dollar amount of the transactions affected by the mass request.

INPUT AMOUNT

The amount of the payment that is in the currency of the service.

INPUT TYPE

Method of submitting files to RBC.

INST/BRANCH

The financial institution number (4 digits) and branch number (5 digits) that the payment will be debited to.

NEW VALUE DATE

The new date that a customer will receive their payment.

NEW DUE DATE

This is the new due date if there has been a change to the original due date.

O

ONLINE DEBITS

The amount and the function performed on each payment activity and mass function.

ONLINE CREDITS

The amount and the function performed on each payment activity and mass function.

ORIGINAL FOREIGN AMOUNT

The foreign equivalent of the input amount.

ORIGINAL DUE DATE

The original date that the payment was to be made.

ORGINATOR ADDRESS

For payments destined to the United States, the originator address must accompany the payment record. This is the physical address of the company who originated the payment.

ORGINATOR BANK

This is the bank that is involved with the origination of the payment. For most business clients this would be RBC however for clients such as other FI’s, they would be concerned the Originator Bank.

ORGINATOR NAME

For payments destined to the United States, the originator name must accompany the payment record. This is the name of the company who originated the payment.

PAGE NUMBER

Page number of report.

PAYMENT END DATE

The last payment date in a mass request file list.

PAYMENT END NO.

The last payment number in a mass request file list.

PAYMENT (PYT/PYMT) NO.

Payment number as provided by the client on the input file.

PAYMENT START DATE

The earliest payment date listed on a mass request file.

PAYMENT START NO.

The first payment number listed on a mass request file.

PAYMENT STATUS

T level errors will be shown under this heading.

PHONE

Primary contact phone number.

R

RETURN CODE

A 3 digit CPA or ACH returned file reason code.

RETURN DESCRIPTION

A description for the returned file reason code.

REPORT NUMBER

A unique 4 digit number identifying each report, followed by the transit code identifying where the report will be delivered for client pick up. For Transmission output clients, the transit code will be 00000.

REPORT TITLE

The report’s name.

RETURNED AMOUNT

The amount of the dishonoured item being returned.

R/T NUMBER or
ROUTING NUMBER

This is the US equivalent to the bank/transit number, that’s sometimes referred to as ABA number. This number contains 9 digits composed of:

  1. The transit number (4 digits)
  2. The financial institution number (4 digits)
  3. The check number (1 digit)

RUN DATE

The date the report was produced. The format of the date is:
YYYY / MMM / DD

RUN TIME

The time the report was produced. The format of the time is:  HH:MM:SS

SELECT DATE

The latest date when RBC must deliver a direct deposit to the receiving financial institution to ensure they make funds available to the receiver on the next business day. For example, if a transaction is dated July 28, RBC must deliver the transaction to the receiving financial institution on July 27th to ensure that the receiver has access to the funds on July 28th.

SERVICE

Service selected by you at set up.

STATUS

Indication if the payment is invalid (T), Valid (V) or In Excess (I)

T

TIME

The time your input file(s) or payments activities were performed.

TEMPORARY LIMIT

This is a temporary increase to your Daily Limit. You must contact your RBC Royal Bank Account Manager well in advance of when you will need the increased Daily Limit.

TO AMOUNT

The last payment amount listed in a mass request.

TO NEW ACCOUNT

Your customer’s new account number. This account number would have been assigned by your customer’s financial institution due to a branch closure, merger or acquisition.

TRAN (TRN) CODE

The 3 digit Canadian Payment Association (CPA) or Automated Clearing House (ACH) code that describes the type of payment.

# TRANSACTIONS AFFECTED

The number of transactions affected by a mass request.

V

VALUE DATE

The date when direct deposits are available to the receivers, which is also when you fund or settle the direct deposits. This only applies if you are not required to fund your direct deposits in advance.
