Protect Your Business in an Evolving Cybersecurity Landscape

In this conversation, Adam Evans (RBC’s Chief Information Security Officer), and Roger Howard (Executive Vice President, Regional Banking – Commercial) discuss the latest trends in cybersecurity, and the growing impact of AI as it can bring both risks and opportunities to businesses.

While AI tools can detect vulnerabilities that were previously imperceptible, Evans explains that many tactics remain the same, such as impersonation attacks, credential theft and information harvesting. The difference today is the speed and scale at which AI can enable bad actors to attack organizations.

Evans advises business leaders to take proactive steps and build a response plan, which should outline potential scenarios, establish roles and responsibilities, and strategize communications. “You want to keep testing and making sure that as you go through these crises…you keep refining your decision making,” Evans says. “No incident that I’ve ever seen in my career is the same. They’re different every time. This is all about getting in the room together, understanding how you’re going to operate with one another, and making sure people know the decisions that they’re going to have to make.”
